    A CHINESE EXPORT IVORY CHESS SET IN A LACQUERED CABINET ON STAND
    CANTON, MID-19TH CENTURY
    The white king and queen modelled as George III and Queen Charlotte, the green stained side modelled as Imperial rulers, the bishops as mandarins, the knights on horse back, the rooks as elephants surmounted by mahouts and turrets, the pawns as foot soldiers
    The king -- 5 1/8 in. (13 cm.) high; the pawn -- 2 5/8 in. (6.5 cm.) high
    Together with a gilt and black lacquered cabinet, mid-19th century, the doors revealing a silk-lined tray (to hold the chessmen) above a drawer with a folding games board, on an associated stand with cabriole legs
