The rectangular top above a tapering front with four drawers mounted with gilt repoussé foliate back-plates and drawer pulls and escutcheons, inlaid with scroll, leaf and strapwork marquetry, the drawers lined with blue marbled paper

Lot Essay

This commode with its unusual bombé-shaped outline and inwardly-curved sides and fine marquetry strapwork can be compared to examples from Bayreuth-Berlin (H. Kreisel, Die Kunst des deutschen Möbels, Part II, Munich, 1970, fig. 794).
