    Lot Essay

Arthur Ronald Lambert Field Tree (1897-1976), was an American-born British journalist, Conservative Member of Parliament and advisor to Prime Minister Winston Churchill. Tree is famed for building the stunning villa 'Heron Bay' in Barbados, in the 1940's, modelled on Palladio's Villa di Maser, Veneto. Tree is also renowned for opening the intemporel Sandy Lane hotel in Barbados in 1961, which rapidly became the Caribbean address for the beau-monde, with regular patrons such as the Rothschilds, Onassis, and Astors.

Please note that the interiors of lots 1007 and 1008 are covered in Venetian handmade paper from Legatoria Piazzesi, Campiello della Feltrina, San Marco, Venice.
