Lot Essay

The design of these wall-lights in the fashionable goût grec of the late 1760s and 1770s is attributed to the celebrated architect, designer and ornémaniste, Jean-Charles Delafosse (d. 1789). Similar wall-lights are illustrated in H. Ottomeyer, P. Pröschel et.al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, vol. I, p. 186, fig 3.9.1.
