A RARE SET OF FOUR CYPRESS AND ELMWOOD STOOLS
QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY
Each of the seats is formed from a single panel of irregular section and lobed on the shorter sides. The front facing longer side of each seat is gently incurved to provide added comfort to the sitter. The seat is supported by unusual, curved aprons that are carved in openwork with lingzhi scrolls along the edges, and framing pairs of splayed legs.
