The moulded rectangular top with inset leather writing surface, and two frieze drawers to each side, stamped GILLOWS LANCASTER, the castors stamped COPE & COLLINSON / PATENT / STRONG, signed in pencil to the underside of one drawer E. Simpson

The signature must be that of either Edmund or Edward Simpson, both of whom were working for the firm at this time and are recorded by Susan Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730-1840, London, 2008, vol. 2, pp. 281-282.
