A nickelled brass, aluminium, and painted steel centre table, inset with satin glass surface, by George Frey, for the G. Fox department store, circa 1932
The Fox & Co. flagship department store in Hartford, Connecticut, stood as one of the country's leading retail establishments during the second quarter of the 20th century. In the 1930s, Auerbach updated the original 1917 building with Art Deco interiors inspired by current trends in Paris and New York. Newly streamlined spaces were complemented by metal furniture and display cases. This piece served as display table in the Millinery Salon on the fifth floor.
