    • JOHANN BORGERSEN (1863-1930)
Alongside his compatriot Lars Kinsarvik, Borgersen was one of the leading exponents of the nationalistic Norwegian Arts & Crafts movement referred to as the 'Dragon' style. Incorporating Medieval and Viking symbolism, the movement reflected the rise of Norwegian nationalism during the nineteenth century, culminating in Norway's independence from Sweden in 1905. An exemple of Borgersen's elaborately carved bench was exhibited at the Exposition Universelle, Paris, 1900, alongside other works by Kinsarvik. Other examples are in the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum, The Dallas Museum of Art, the Musée d'Orsay, Paris and the Louvre, Abu Dhabi. Read more
