Margherita Burgener was born in Italy where the jewellery firm of Burgener was founded by her grandfather, Carlo. He began his career at the tender age of 11 as an apprentice goldsmith and it was at this very early stage that he was taught the long-established practices of traditional Italian jewellery making. In 1966 Carlo Burgener opened his own workshop in Valenza, in the north of Italy, which was later inherited by his sons, and eventually, Margherita Burgener herself. In the footsteps of her grandfather, Margherita today continues the Burgener jewellery line, ensuring that the exceptional craftsmanship established by her grandfather is never lost. As a designer, she combines both the older family practices with newer and more contemporary ideas creating designs and pieces that are strikingly modern and fashionable yet retaining the noble traditions of classical Italian jewellery. In addition, her passion and love of the watery colours of aquamarine and other delicately coloured gemstones form the basis of her meticulous creations. Today, Margherita continues to work exclusively within the Valenza family workshop that was set up by her grandfather. Her jewellery designs continue to reflect the past yet evolve with the present so that they remain constant companions to the discerning men and women who wear them.
