AN ANTIQUE ROSE-CUT DIAMOND, RUBY AND ENAMEL PENDANT
The lozenge-shaped rose-cut diamond locket to a swivel mount enamelled to the reverse with the monogram 'WM' beneath a closed royal crown, surmounted by a white enamel scroll inscribed 'L'AMOUR EN FAIT LE LIEN' with a ruby-set ribbon bow and suspension loop, the rose-cut diamond, 17th century, the mount possibly 18th century
3.7 cm. high
Edward, 1st Baron Revelstoke, by whom given to his daughter Margaret Baring (1868-1906), wife of Charles Robert, Viscount Althorp and later 6th Earl Spencer (1857-1922), on her 21st birthday 14 December 1889.

Lord Revelstoke was known for his interest in jewels with historic associations and this pendant is enamelled to the reverse with the initials W and M beneath a royal crown, for King William III and Queen Mary II.
