In oak and pine, the bench comprising: a lap wheel for stone polishing, hand operated via a belt and pulley system, three calibrated dop holders, one metal chuck, a collection of wooden and bone dop sticks, 22 stone cutting discs, six circular and rectangular metal gauges, three pairs of metal tweezers, one hammer, two mandrels, one boxed set of balance scales, one wood and metal roller, one metal pyramid shaped bowl and various boxes of rough and cut glass and synthetic stones as polishing examples, late 19th early/20th century, 126.0 x 56.5 x 76.5 cm

Lot Essay

As a very specialised meuble de lapidaire, this unusual bench is accompanied by an equally rare selection of contemporary stone cutting tools. Although seemingly a notably quirky historical object, it is as practical in its field today as when it was first made.
