Finely cast and patinated as the bearded figure of Roshi (Laozi) seated on a rush mat on a water buffalo and holding a handscroll in his left hand, the contemplative mood captured by his countenance and posture, signature on base

With original wood box signed Teishitsu Gigeiin jusani Takamura Koun saku (made by Takamura Koun, Artist to the Imperial Household, Third Rank) Takamura Toyochika chu (cast by Takamura Toyochika; 1890-1972, son of Koun) and sealed Takamura Koun and Toyochika, and titled Roshi
