This marble-topped and ormolu-enriched 'chiffonier' cabinet of 'Grecian' black-figured rosewood and ebony reflects the Regency eclectic style with its bookcase compartment surmounted by Chinese-railed galleries for porcelain display. It formed part of the renowned art collection assembled at Donnington Grove, Berkshire by the Hon. Mrs. Daisy Fellowes. Pairs of such cabinets or 'mobile libraries' flanked the fashionable parlour or drawing-room fireplace and what appears to have been the cabinet's pair was sold anonymously Christie's, New York, 16 April 1994 (lot 153).
