YUAN DYNASTY, 14TH CENTURY
The cover decorated with a scene of an official holding a hu scepter accompanied by four attendants standing in a fenced courtyard as he visits another official or scholar seated at a table on the terrace of a pavilion, with two small dogs scampering at the feet of the visitors, while a horse and halberds can be seen beyond a mountain in the distance, the sides inlaid with composite foliate scroll, all within fine twisted wire borders, the interior and base covered in red lacquer
