The intricately-carved scrolled-rocaille padded back and seat upholstered à chassis with pink silk damask woven with a flowering basket, flanked by downcruved scrolled arms with volute handrests, on cabriole legs, each headed by a shell and carved on the knee with a flowerhead, flanking asymmetrical scrolled-rocaille stretchers

Lot Essay

Another armchair with shaped arched toprail surmounted by a rocaille shell above a cartouche upholstered back, and with similar scrolled arms and deeply cabriole legs from the Palacio de Benamejì, Santillana del Mar (Santander), is illustrated in L. Feduchi, El Mueble Espanol, 1969, p. 156, fig. 132.
