Presented to Lieut. Louis N. Stodder, by the Citizens of Boston Feby. 23, 1863.
Fullered blade, decorated with two extensive etched panels of American Eagle, US, and panoply-of-arms motifs is mounted with a gilt brass hilt pierced and chased with floral scroll motifs surrounding US. Twisted wire wrapped ray-skin grip. Nickel plated scabbard with presentation inscription Presented to/Lieut. Louis N. Stodder,/by the Citizens of Boston/Feby. 23, 1863. With four engravings along scabbard noting FORT DARLING/MAY 15, 1862, MONITOR AND MERRIMAC/MARCH 9, 1862, FOUNDERED OFF CAPE HATTERAS DEC. 31, 1862 and SEWALLS POINT/MAY 8, 1862. Three elaborate gilt brass mounts with American Eagle, Panoply-of-arms and foliate scroll motifs.
