Lot Essay

An exceedingly rare programme for the first 'Masters' Tournament held annually at the Augusta National G.C. Few programmes were printed and they were handed out almost exclusively to the registered PGA teaching golf professionals at the time. The descriptions of the holes include notes on how they should be played by Dr. Alister Mackenzie, designer of the course. The score sheet is headed by Horton Smith with scores of 70-72-70-72, though several players below him achieved a round of 69. A programme accompanied the second tournament held in 1935 but no others followed until 1990.
