    Lot Essay

The present work depicts the Anacapri region of the Italian island Capri. In the distance, Coleman has painted the island of Iscia on the left, and to the right, the eruption of Vesuvius. Coleman and fellow artist Elihu Vedder both resided on Capri for several years, inspired by the island's unique landscape and poetic history.
