Autograph letter signed ('John Constable') to an unidentified recipient ('My dear Sir'), 35 Charlotte Street [London], 27 January 1831, sending a number (the second) of his English Landscape (not present), which is a token of his gratitude, though he remarks self-deprecatingly 'if you don't like it I will not bore you with any more of them'; as for current work, 'I am about something large of Salisbury -- from Fisherton Mill', though he is 'at a loss for the detail' of the cathedral tower, and is therefore relying on an engraving of the subject by [William] Dodsworth; he concludes with a cryptic reference to the fourth plate in no.2 of the Landscape ('Stoke by Neyland, Suffolk'), 'He wore an awfull frown -- at the moment -- as much as to say -- "Here we have no continuing City"', 3½ pages, 8vo, bifolium, tipped into C.R.
