FIRST EDITION OF PERHAPS THE MOST RENOWNED EARLY COOKERY BOOK IN ENGLISH. 'Her works were best-sellers for nearly 100 years ... and they remained popular until Mrs. Beeton took over her mantle' (Maclean). Hannah Glasse recognised the need for a new kind of cookery book and so wrote hers in plain English for the ordinary domestic cook, making use of common ingredients and simple procedures. In addition to giving recipes, she advises how to choose meat and fish, and lists when certain fish, fruits and vegetables are in season.
