Lot Essay

Princess Louise, daughter of the Prince and Princess of Prussia married Friedrich, Grand Duke of Baden (1826-1907) in 1856. The Grand Duchess devoted much time to the Red Cross which was established after the Battle of Solferino in 1859.
The exhibition catalogue Werke der Kleinporträtkunst, Mannheim, Grand-Ducal Castle, 1909, no. 658 described an identical or the present miniature lent by H. R. H. the Grand Duke Frederick II of Baden.
