JIM MORRISON ORIGINAL PRINT COPY OF 'AN AMERICAN PRAYER' 1970 A 40-page small red leather-bound book of poetry with embossed gilt lettering on the cover reading An American Prayer/Jim Morrison. Self-published by Morrison in the summer of 1970 with only 500 copies printed by Western Lithographers (Los Angeles), the poems are mostly short and succinct. Typical ones read: -We need great golden copulations -(I touched her thigh/& death smiled) -I will not go/Prefer a Feast of Friends/To the Giant family Morrison considered himself to be a poet above all else and was proud of his published works (See Lots 183-184). He always used his proper name on his poetry; printed opposite the title page is C James Douglas Morrison 1970 All Rights Reserved. 5 x 4 inches
Provenance
This copy was given directly to the current owner in 1970 when he walked into The Doors offices at 8512 Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles. Kathy Lisciando, secretary to The Doors, handed it to him saying that only a few had been printed and that they were meaningful to Jim.
