Lady Charlotte Penelope Brudenell was the third daughter of Robert Brudenell 6th Earl of Cardigan (1760-1837) and Penelope Anne Cooke (1770-1826). She was the younger sister of Lady Harriet Georgiana Curzon-Howe Countess Howe, who was also painted by Margaret Carpenter. Lady Charlotte married Henry Charles Sturt (1795-1866) of Crichel House, Dorset on 15 August 1820.
