Lot Essay

Accompanied by Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in 1957 and its subsequent sale with pink gold bracelet on 10 April 1957.

Reference 2540 was launched in 1954. A similar watch is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, 2nd edition, p. 215.

To the best of our knowledge, only seven examples of the reference 2540 have been offered in public. However, the present watch with its combination of the original pink gold bracelet and with the retailers' initials (S.&L. for Serpico y Laino, Patek Philippe's retailer in Caracas, Venezuela) stamped both on case back and clasp are probably making it a unique piece.
