With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with silvered dial and applied steel hour markers in 1942 and its subsequent sale on 16 June 1943.
This watch is an extremely attractive example of a reference 570 in stainless steel, fitted with a highly charismatic two-tone silvered dial. Under a certain angle and light, the centre of this dial changes from silvered to an ivory-coloured tone. An other particularity is the small, black hard enamel line underneath the second letter "E" of the writing "GENEVE", centred underneath the signature.
The watch offered here for sale for the first time ever at auction does not only impress by its captivating aesthetics but equally its technical complexity. In fact, it is fitted with the celebrated calibre 12''' SC movement with indirect centre seconds. This ébauche was the result of the collaboration between Victorin Piguet and Patek Philippe, where the centre seconds mechanism was ingeniously added to the existing 12'''120 "subsidiary seconds" movement.
The present watch is thought to be one of only two examples of reference 570 in stainless steel with indirect sweep centre seconds known to date. It is interesting to note that the second example, however with Roman numerals, is on permanent exhibition at the prestigious Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva.
