The present watch is an outstanding example of reference 3525 and believed to be part of an exceedingly small series of this celebrated model cased in pink gold and unquestionably one of the most attractive and best preserved examples to appear in public in recent years.
The watch offered here for sale is distinguished by its astoundingly crisp and unpolished case and its crisp proportions, most evident to the beholders eye are the sharp edges of the lugs and the crisp gold mark underneath the upper right lug. The impressively even level of oxidation, a typical sign for watches which have not been used in a very long time, underline the fact that the present watch was a "sleeping beauty" for many decades. The charismatic dial reflects a great shine with no signs of any restoration and enhances the overall look of this legendary chronograph watch.
Made in 1945, it is from the last series of this reference with the engraved reference and serial numbers between the lugs as opposed to on the outside of the case back of the earlier examples.
Treasures like the present example are amongst the rarest trophies in today's market, a must for the discerning collector of extraordinary timepieces.
Production of reference 3525 was launched in 1939. The model was made in stainless steel, yellow and pink gold as well as steel and gold (yellow and pink).
Different versions in regard to case material and dial layout are illustrated in 100 Superlative Rolex Watches by John Goldberger, pp. 96-107, and in I Cronografi Rolex - La Leggenda, Pucci Papaleo Editore, pp. 162-192.
