Opaque pigments on paper, depicting 24 Mughal emperors from Timur to Fath al-Mulk Muhammad Mirza Afkhar Bu Sa'id Bahadur, each in an oval medallion and identified above in a cartouche with a black nasta'liq inscription, within gold and polychrome floral borders, mounted, framed, the reverse inscribed in English "(24) Twenty-four Moghal Kings of Delhi", a nasta'liq inscription along the bottom edge

Lot Essay

The inscription in Urdu along the bottom edge reads shabih khandan mughuliya bi-takht dehli ("Likeness of the Mughal rulers on the throne of Delhi"). An old printed note on the reverse transcribes the identification inscriptions into English.
