Edith Head, along with Dorothy Jeakins, Elois Jenseen, Gile Steele and Gwen Wakeling, was awarded an Academy Award for Colour Costume Design for Samson And Delilah in 1950. Edith later said of Samson And Delilah "...A DeMille picture was completely different from anything in the world. It meant spending lots of time and attention and money. But because of censorship the correct costumes were not allowed... because a woman's naval was censorable, you will notice that all Hedy Lamarr's costumes had narrow jewel belts."
One of the gilt-metal bracelet cuffs seen in this sketch is offered for sale in the following lot.
