According to the vendor this particular guitar was marked number four for indentification purposes whilst on tour. It is believed that Pete used it at each concert on the Who's 1989 tour, specifically during the song " A Little Is Enough" and occasionally on the songs "Baba O'Riley" and "Join Together".
The vendor of the guitar obtained the instrument from a friend of Pete Townshend's guitar technician in 1998, after Pete decided to dispose of it in a low key fashion, as he preferred. The accompanying letter explains further the relationship, and confirms that Pete owned a few different Takamine models and that he had indeed used this one on stage with the Who during the 1989 World Tour.
1989 saw the celebration of 25 years since the formation of the Who; 20 years since the release of 'Tommy', which meant to observe the twofold anniversary a major tour of the USA was embarked on - it proved to be the most financially successful tour the band had ever done.
