As well as the trademark Fez, Tommy Cooper was known for his use of a number of different hats during his performances. This heavy prop iron hat was used by Cooper as a gag for the opening sketch at the Royal Variety Show circa 1950s. He walked out onto the stage complaining to the audience of a headache. At which point removing the hat and throwing it to the floor. The audience erupted in laughter and applause at the surprise revelation that the hat was in fact made of heavy metal and not felt.
