Each painting depicts figures at various stages of rice cultivation and is accompanied by a description of the scene.
The paintings, 8 7/8 in. x 8 ¾ in. (22.5 cm. x 22.2 cm.), mounted on card
By repute, acquired by Sir William Adamson, C.M.G. (1832-1917) in the mid-19th century when working in Singapore, and then by descent. Sir William recommended Anna Leonowens to King Mongkut of Siam, who became governess to the royal children in the Court of Siam in 1862.
