According to scholar Barbara Von Barghahn (Sacramental Light: Latin American Devotional Art of the Colonial Period from The Fundación Arte Sacro Antonio Roig-Ferré Collection), this painting has strong stylistic affinities with a series of "Twelve Archangels" painted by the anonymous Master of Sopó between 1650-1700. The town of Sopó in Colombia was founded in the sixteenth century.
