    Lot Essay

    The present miniature appears to be a copy of a portrait miniature by John Hoskins (c. 1590-1665), signed with monogram 'IH', presumed to be the lot entitled 'Lady with Pearl Necklace' by Hoskins of the Hamilton Palace Sale, sold Christie's, 17-20 June 1882, lot 1606. It is now in the British Royal Collection (see G. Reynolds, The Sixteenth and Seventeenth-Century Miniatures in the Collection of Her Majesty The Queen, London, 1999, p. 113, no. 82).
