    Lot Essay

Van Schooten's horizontal panels gradually evolved from large compositions with an abundance of detail towards smaller scale still lifes with simplified content. It is possible that van Schooten owned the items depicted in this picture, as a number of paintings of the same copper objects in various arrangements exists. A similar example to the present lot was with Brod in 1963.
