Lot Essay
The authenticity of this work has kindly been confirmed by Mrs. Claudine Dyf and is registered under no.4417.
This work by the French artist Marcel Dyf shows an intimate moment in the relationship between the painter and his young wife, and muse, Claudine. The beautiful Claudine sits as if waiting to leave - as suggested in the title, she is about to attend a dance. Beyond the delicate depiction of a bouquet of flowers we see a figure in the mirror's reflection, at whom the subject smiles enigmatically. This mysterious figure is most likely the artist, and offers a rare glimpse of self-portraiture in his oeuvre.
