Lemon Squash is a very interesting topic in Kusama's paintings. Her iconic, obsessive, dots are present, along with the black and white tones, a bichromy also characteristic of her work. The motif also recalls the artist's involvement in pop art
The part played by Lemon Squash could be to represent a pleasure in life. As it was not repeated to the same extent as others, maybe the artist's intention was not obliteration. The subject relates to her experiences, as in others works, but maybe in a different way. It could simply be the memory of a drink enjoyed, rather than a cathartic, almost therapeutic translation of an hallucination or an obsession. The symbolic content in this series is more unique in her works.
