A FINELY CARVED WHITE JADE DOUBLE-GOURD GROUP
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY

The flattened pebble is elaborately carved in high relief and pierced to depict a large double-gourd, naturalistically rendered with insect holes, growing on a gnarled stem bearing four smaller gourds of varying sizes to the sides, detailed with two bats in flight, the cream-white stone with areas of opaque white inclusions and suffused with flecks of russet highlighting the carving
