This figure is from a series of twelve Commedia dell'Arte figures modelled by J.W. Lanz which are illustrated by F.H. Hofmann, ibid., 1911, pls. 15 and 16. At least two series of comedy figures were made at Frankenthal, one of which was based on the series made at Meissen by Reinicke and Kändler for the Duke of Weissenfels, and the other was based on Kändler's series of children dressed as comedy figures. A similar figure in the Gardiner Museum, Toronto, is illustrated by Meredith Chilton, Harlequin Unmasked, The Commedia dell'Arte and Porcelain Sculpture, Singapore, 2001, pp. 283-284, no. 45, where the other known examples are listed.
