'HIPPOPOTAME', A PATINATED BRONZE SCULPTURE BY FRANÇOIS POMPON, DESIGNED WITHOUT A BASE IN 1918, CAST POST-MORTEM BEFORE 1940
This model was cast by Hébrard without a base in three examples, then by Valsuani. It is put on a base in 1929 and was made in three different sizes, small, medium and one life size, in plaster, for the Exposition Coloniale, Paris, 1931.
This lot will be sold with a certificate of authentication by Mrs. Liliane Colas dated 24 March 2014. The expert's report specifies that today our cast is the only known example of this version of the hippopotamus and was made after an original plaster, and presented on the market for the first time.
