This work represents two cubes that change shape in space. The materials of which they are composed are extremely poor: an electric motor, aluminium pipes, nylon thread. Gianni Colombo's works, as we say, are made of nothing: pure invention that becomes magic for the viewer.
We searched for this Spazio elastico (Elastic Space) for a long time: it would have added a special magic to our home. It is a work that manages to engage in a full physical relationship with the space and the surrounding environment. Once it is in motion, it is as though all the rest fell silent for it: it is the protagonist of incredible acrobatics in the air, which take your breath away in the amazement they manage to instill. A concatenation of geometric images, sometimes twisted, then immediately transformed into figures that are more regular, delineate the space with the studied speed of a magician who wishes to arouse expectation for his next move. Colombo wants to "act" on our perception: but not only the eyes are seduced by his inventions, there is something much deeper that is involved, because a breath of fresh air reaches your heart.
There are two elements that belong decisively to the structure of Colombo's works: construction and illusion. In the case of the latter, the protagonist is absolutely the observer.
