Lot Essay

A similar cartoon of wavy branches and wrapped leaves was used for a Kashan brocade, also enriched with metal thread, dated from the 17th century in the Metropolitan Museum (A Survey of Persian Art, Oxford, 1938, p. 1073, fig. b).
