Founded by Giovanni Panerai in 1860, the Florentine brand was first popular for supplying timepieces meeting the needs of the Regia Marina, the Royal Italian Navy.
Through the invention of the Radiomir, a radium-based powder providing luminosity to dials by storing energy, Officine Panerai created a now iconic diving wristwatch which became standard issue for military personnel such as the Italian Navy Frogmen and the German Navy. At the time, as wristwatches had to sustain harsh conditions, almost all diving watches used movements and waterproof cases made by Rolex.
Throughout the years, watches designed by Panerai became highly popular and encountered many technological developments. To the delight of the collectors of the brand, Panerai's have managed to stay true to the philosophy of its founder and kept their iconic designs.
Offered in excellent condition, the present wristwatch was made to celebrate the Panerai Istanbul boutique.
