With original Rolex box, guarantee and Daytona booklet
When Rolex created the Cosmograph Daytona, it redefined the concept of the sports watch. The success of the line was due to a number of factors such as the appealing design, the waterproof case, and the chronograph function. It soon became the horologic epitome of sporty masculinity. It is no surprise that the gold versions of the celebrated model were, back then, regarded with puzzled looks and sold very little: gold was generally the chioce for evening watches and a sport chronograph was as far as it got from an evening watch.
The result of this attitude is the incredible rarity of vintage gold Daytonas. Furthermore, given the ease of scratching of the tender gold case and consequent common overpolishing of such models, nowadays gold specimens with unadulterated case proportions are an exceedingly rare find. The present example is one of these such gems.
This timepiece impresses the beholder with its intact case proportions and the immaculate satin finish on the topside of the lugs. The underside of the watch is no less: the hallmarks under the lugs are as crisp as if stamped yesterday, and the caseback shows hardly any sign of wear.
The immaculate case condition marries a design whose aesthetic appeal is nearly unrivalled: the champagne writings and subdials are in stark but somehow still mellow contrast with the black background, and such game of alternating hues is reprised by the black bezel and gold case. On top of all of this, this watch comes accompanied by its original box and guarantee stamped gioielleria Vassallo, Cuneo
Combining rarity, aesthetics, completeness and the historical importance of this reference, the last of the manually wound black bezel Daytonas, the present timepiece truly is a horologic treasure.
