The subject of a crouching female dressing herself was popular for gems during the 4th century B.C. For a range of poses all with the female holding the garment aloft, see nos. Bbc9-16 in Wiegandt, Die griechischen Siegel klassicher Zeit. The gem presented here is closest to no. Bbc14, a lapis lazuli scaraboid from Athens now in the British Museum.
