AN EGYPTIAN LIMESTONE RELIEF
MIDDLE KINGDOM, DYNASTY XI-XIV, 2040-1640 B.C.
Carved in sunk relief, with portions of seven columns of hieroglyphs belonging to a religious text, with repeated exhortations to a deity to remove and eliminate an enemy, most likely a snake and probably the archenemy of the sun god and ordered cosmos, Apophis, reading: "[Ey]e of Horus, im[purity](?) suf[fering](?) (or, im[age]??); [Eli]minate him! Remove; you...yourself by yourself (or, your very self). remove; like the [healing/restoration?] (or, even as...is [healed/restored?]; yourself. Eliminate him! Re[move]; Eli[minate him! Remove him!; [hi]m to the ground! Cause to be [bound?]," mineral pigment preserved in the hieroglyphs and the dividers
