One Day in the Life of a Stag. London: Henry Colburn, 1847. Oblong 4° (250 x 338mm), hand-coloured engraved frontispiece, additional title and 5 plates after E.R. Smyth, advertisement leaf at end and inserted list of Colburn's publications in 8° on 4 leaves (frontispiece, additional title and title detached, title slightly frayed, occasional marginal soiling, block split between quires F and G), original green cloth by Westleys and Clark with gilt cover vignette, uncut (spine a little worn, corners bumped, front inner hinges split). Provenance: Charles T. Hebbert (bookplate) -- C.F.G.R. Schwerdt (bookplate). RARE ON THE MARKET. No sale recorded in on-line ABPC. Schwerdt I, p. 228, describing this copy: "A discussion between a young lady and her sporting lover on the cruelty of modern stag hunting; illustrated with attractive plates. The scene is laid near the river Orwell".

Hullmandel (N8r, T4v-T5r and Y4r heavily spotted, repaired marginal tear to P8, occasional thumb-soiling), original green cloth with gilt vignettes, uncut (spine soiled and rubbed at extremities). Schwerdt II, p. 155: "first edition of a famous book showing how this fascinating sport was carried on with the aid of deerhounds before modern rifles were introduced". (2)
