The anglaise riche case with Corinthian columns and ripple mouldings, with finely matted and foliate engraved dial mask, central white enamel Roman and Arabic time dial with blued steel Breguet hands, the upper enamel dials showing month, phase of moon and date, the lower silvered dials showing thermometer, barometer and retrograde day of week, buttons to the top for repeat and adjustment of upper dial functions, the movement with twin barrels, high quality bimetallic lever balance with gilt-frosted platform, strike/repeat on two gongs mounted in the base, strikework positioned on the back plate, also with three position lever for silence/grande/petite sonnerie selection, the back plate stamped VB for Victorien Boseet and numbered 613, also signed AB, possibly for Alfred Baveux, formerly with a glass cover mounted on the back plate; with original leather travel case

A carriage clock of closely related design by Boseet was sold Christie's London, Important Clocks, 1 July 2005, lot 36; another was sold Antiquorum Geneva, L'Art de L'Horlogerie en France de XVIe au XXe Siècle, 14 November 1993, lot 235.

Also recorded as Victorien Bousset, Boseet received a bronze medal at the Paris exhibition of 1878. The Révue Chronometrique of June 1880 especially mentions him as an important Morez maker of very good carriage clocks, especially complicated ones (see Allix and Bonnert p.433). The postioning of the cadrature on the back plate is a typical Morez feature.
