Lot Essay

A preparatory study for a watercolour in the Groninger Museum in Groningen (Anton Mauve 1838-1888, exhib. cat., Haarlem, Teylers Museum, 2009-10, pp. 61 and 142-3, figs. 70 and 182). The watercolour has been dated to circa 1878, offering a likely date for the execution of the present drawing.
