Ce portrait-charge peut être comparé à d'autres caricatures d'artistes et amis de Vincent qui furent exécutées à Rome, probablement vers 1773-74, lorsqu'il séjournait au Palais Mancini (voir J.-P. Cuzin, François-André Vincent 1746-1816, entre Fragonard et David, Paris, 2013, pp. 387-404).
