Lot Essay

A drawing so similar in size, technique and composition that it might almost be a pendant to the present work was in the collection of Professor I.Q. van Regteren Altena, previously owned by the late Duke of Hamilton (Le Cabinet d'un Amateur, Dessins flamands et hollandais des XVIe et XVIIe siècles d'une collection privée d'Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Museum Boymans-van Beuningen, and elsewhere, 1976-77, no. 93, pl. 115).
